I had the opportunity to speak with H. Keyes of Yelp on behalf of a client. Yelp does very well in the search engine results. Look at the attached search results for "medical weight loss."
How accurate is this search result? All the top links point to Yelp. The #1 spot is a sponsor of Yelp. Yelp claims these are relevant search results because people want to see reviews.
I sent an email to Yelp to ask about merging several locations into one report. I learned this is a feature available to Yelp sponsors. Yelp also places sponsor ads at the top of competitor pages, and removes competitor ads from sponsor pages.
It makes sense for Yelp to promote its advertisers. But how "organic" are these Google search results?
